European flag similarities
A country’s flag is integral to nation-building, identity fostering. It’s a shame so many are so lame.
In Europe, where much of this world’s geopolitical structure developed - for better or worse - you might think their flag choices would be more fun, or at least original.
Above you see flags from the Netherlands on the left and France on the right. Yeah, someone just turned one on its side. Check the flag description for France in the CIA World Factbook:
three equal vertical bands of blue (hoist side), white, and red; known as the “Le drapeau tricolore” (French Tricolor), the origin of the flag dates to 1790 and the French Revolution; the design and/or colors are similar to a number of other flags, including those of Belgium, Chad, Ireland, Cote d’Ivoire, Luxembourg, and Netherlands; the official flag for all French dependent areas. I love that the CIA slipped in that insult, “the design and/or colors are similar to a number of other flags.” Ha!
In related news, amid long-held suspicions, Ireland (on left), Hungary and Italy will merge their governments. Officials admitted their slightly altered flags were no longer tricking anybody.
