Preconcieved Notions: Milan, Italy
We’re skipping Italy, though Milan was in our original plans. Here’s what I think we’d be missing.
Despite not having much more fashion sense than putting on some jeans and a t-shirt, all I can visualize when I think of Milan is fashion. Turns out, all of those times I awkwardly enjoyed Project Runway came in handy, as Milan is home to one of the four major fashion weeks in the world (the others being Paris, London, and New York). Oddly enough, there are over 50 fashion weeks including Portland and Fort Lauderdale. But I digress….
Often overshadowed by Rome in everyone’s Social Studies class, Milan is Italy’s second largest city sporting a population of 1.3 million, roughly equal to Philadelphia. Milan is also regarded as one of the world’s financial centers and is the seat of the Italian Stock Exchange.
Probably because of Milan’s relationship with fashion I also irrationally believe that everyone in Milan is a supermodel. I’m still holding out on this one though. With any luck I can turn my four years of high school Latin into semi-comprehensible Italian pickup lines.
