Chris and I researching looked kind of like this

Here at WDSTL, we didn’t just set off on our trip without doing a bit of research. To me, that meant building up a hefty bookmark list of travel blogs and podcasts. Below are five of our favorites and I hope you check them out.

  1. The Life Less Traveled. Great interviews on people living the dream. Most recently the blog profiled this British couple that simplified their life and hit the road.
  2. Amtrekker. Man creates to do list. Man selles everything he owns to travel and complete to do list. Man video tapes the whole thing. We win.
  3. Almost Fearless. Christine, the author of AF, quit her job at a Fortune 500 company and left for Spain and documents her adventures along the way. She offers a great perspective aside from the typical young backpacker set. A particularly poignant post was when she was tempted by the dark side to give up on part of her dream.
  4. Nomadic Matt.  The first travel blog I ever subscribed to, Matt has been every where and has the advice and knowledge that shows it.  Covering everything from having sex in hostels to how to vote, you would be foolish as a traveler not add this RSS feed.
  5. Matador Networks.  Matador is actually many smaller sites rolled into one, but it is incredibly easy to find what you’re after.  You could poke around the sites social networking features for hours and make those valuable connections that turn into travel opportunity.  There are nine sections including ones for partying, volunteering, and more. Matador is also one of the best way to get your travel writing published.
